Common Factors
- Example:
- Find the common factors of 36, and 60
- Solution:
- 36 = 1 × 36, 2 × 18, 3 × 12, 4 × 9, 6 × 6
- Therefore, factors of 36 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36.
- 60 = 1 × 60, 2 × 30, 3 × 20, 4 × 15, 5 × 12, 6 × 10
- Therefore, factors of 60 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60.
- Therefore, the common factors of 36 and 60 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
- Note:
- The purpose of using the common factors is to simplify fraction.
- When numerator and denominator divide by the greatest common factor, the fraction is the simplest form of the original fraction.
